LEWISTON – Steven Harold Smith, 60, a resident of Church Street in Jay, died Tuesday, July 8, at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1948, in Pottawattamie, Iowa, the son of Harold Max and Faye L. (Chase) Smith and attended local schools. Steve served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era as a specialist E-4 from 1966 to 1970.
On Oct. 5, 1990, he married Ann Marie Libby in Rumford. He worked in construction and roofing and siding. Most recently, he worked for The Flower Barn in Jay delivering flowers which he loved to do!
He was a member of the country band, Heritage and the Country Revolution. He was the organizer of music marathons for 12 years in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy, and also raised money for the MDA Association.
He loved to joke around and make everyone laugh; his favorite saying was “Ain’t you glad to see me today?” He looked forward to going fishing, hunting, camping and especially spending time with this family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for the huge smile he always had on his face.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Marie of Jay; a stepmother, Loris Smith of Iowa; sons, Jefferie Smith of Jay, Raymond Smith, Harold Smith and Jerry Smith, all of Texas; a daughter, Kimberly Smith of Connecticut; brother, Randy Kahl of Iowa; sisters, Cheryl Wotton of Iowa, and Terri Gardner and her husband, Brian, of Iowa; sister-in-laws, Heidi Libby and her fiancé, Scott, of Rumford and April Libby of Florida; brother-in-laws, Norman Libby and his wife, Maureen, of Canton and Edward Libby of Leeds; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Harold M. Smith; and his mother, Faye (Chase) Smith.
