AUBURN – The Taylor Pond Yacht Club, situated on the shores of Taylor Pond, offers an extensive summer program for kids on the 40-acre property off Perkins Ridge Road.
Qualified instructors spend the summer teaching kids of all levels, abilities and ages how to swim in the protected swimming area. Tennis lessons are held on the club’s two new hard-surface tennis courts, and the sailing lessons take place on the waters of Taylor Pond.
Lessons are held in a seven-week course that takes place from early July through mid-August. The summer instructional programs are open to any child in the community for a fee. The program schedule, fees and registration forms can be found at the Taylor Pond Yacht Club Web site at www.tpyc.info.
The club has announced a new summer program, “Quotes and Boats,” a drama and sailing program for teens age 13 to 18. The series of workshops (four all-day sessions) in theater and sailing will be conducted by music and theater teacher Liz Rollins, director of the Maine Interclub Racing Circuit and certified sailing and racing instructor.
Collins, who has directed more than 20 plays and musicals with students and young adults, promises a fun and creative program, “a taste of two wonderful worlds.”
Taylor Pond Yacht Club was founded in 1942 for family recreation and friendship. Members have the use of adult and junior clubhouses, tennis courts, swimming floats, protected swimming area and sandy beach, dock, boat mooring area, large waterfront screened porch, ball field and parking.
For adults there is outdoor socializing, tennis (lessons and league play), sailing races, lobster bakes and evening social events. Members can keep a kayak, canoe or boat at the club and can bring guests to visit. Club facilities are also available to rent for large functions during September.
