Nearly a decade after fire destroyed a former school building, dreams of bringing it back as a community meetinghouse came to fruition Thursday in Farmington when the ribbon was cut. The Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association raised more than $105,000 through donations and fundraisers such as raffles and selling bricks. The town of Farmington provided a no-cost lease and the U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the group $350,000 in a low-interest loan and a grant. The building has a new commercial kitchen, a space that will be leased by Life Enrichment Advancement of People (LEAP) – a service for people with developmental disabilities – for a training center, and a large meeting room that has already been used for a large church group gathering and a dance.
