FARMINGTON – Lucien Arthur Plourde, 84, a resident of Free Street in Jay, died Wednesday, July 9, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center, where he had been a patient for one week.
He was born in Stockholm on Sept. 7, 1923, the son of Joseph and Flevie (Gerrette) Plourde and attended the local schools. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, assigned to the U.S.S. John Paul Jones. On Jan. 3, 1948, in Oquossoc, he married Caroline A. Pooler of Bingham. She passed away on July 16, 1994. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.
He worked for Seton Hospital in Waterville, Jefferson Restaurant in Waterville, Lake Shore Restaurant in Livermore and retired from Forster Manufacturing in Dryden. He was a member of the VFW, Frank L. Mitchell, Post 3335 of Jay, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 320 of Jay, Amvets, Post 33 of Jay and the American Legion of Winthrop. He enjoyed cooking for the Knights of Columbus and was an avid hunter, fisherman and Red Sox fan.
He is survived by two daughters, Eva Cottle and her husband, Richard, of Jay and Theresa Plourde of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, William Plourde and his wife, Leonie, of Las Vegas, Nev., Patrick Plourde and his wife, Kathy, of Forest, Va., and Joseph Plourde and his wife, Melody, of Jay; a sister, Candide West of Bingham; a special nephew, Verdelle Gervais of Skowhegan; a daughter-in-law, Kim Cook of Jay; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Tom Plourde in May 1993; two brothers, Joseph Freeman Plourde and Reynold Plourde.
