AUBURN – On Sunday, July 6, surrounded by loving family, Pearl T. Murphy, 90, went to her heavenly home.

She was born April 3, 1918, the daughter of Gerald Daniel and Theckla (Record) Smith. Her mother passed away at a young age and Pearl was lovingly raised by her Aunt Belle (‘Mama’) and her Uncle Frank (‘Unky’) Bean.

She touched the lives of all she met with her kindness, gentle spirit, sense of humor and sharp mind. In her earlier years, she was an active member of the Grange and often acted in plays. Throughout her life, she enjoyed poetry, brain puzzles, picnics, outings and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She possessed a deep faith and had the honor of being the longest term member of West Auburn Congregational Church. She graduated from Buckfield High School, Class of 1934 at the age of 16. She married Robert Eastman, who lost his life serving our country in World War II. Later she married Chester Murphy and resided in West Auburn for many years with their blended family.

She worked until retirement for 20 years at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. She taught those around her by example. She gave her last selfless gift as an anatomical donor for the University of New England School of Osteopathic Medicine. She was a resident of Clover Health Care Facility since January of this year, where she made many friends among residents and staff.

Survivors include her children Alice B. Eastman and companion, Kenneth Rideout Sr., Frank M. Eastman and wife, Mary Sheila, Richard W. Eastman and wife, Cathy, and Mary E. Murphy Dubois and husband, Levite; stepdaughters, Shirley A. Taylor, Donna L. Haley and husband, Edward Jr. and Bette L. Murphy; Pearl’s cousin, (and best friend) Eleanor Ivers; and generations of grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; late husband, Chester Allen Murphy; a son, Michael Allen Murphy; and a great-great-grandson, Bryce Turmenne.
