AUBURN – Two new three-credit courses, one in journalism and one in comparative politics, will be offered this fall at Central Maine Community College.

Students will write several news articles themselves as well as examine well-written articles published in newspapers, magazines and on the Internet.
The focus will be on writing as a way to explore and explain the events, people and cultural artifacts that surround daily lives.
The course is open to all students and has a prerequisite of college writing. The class will meet from 2 to 3:25 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 2.
“Introduction to Comparative Politics” (POS 205) will offer a broad, comparative introduction to the structure and function of national political systems, with an emphasis on the structural and functional attributes that distinguish democracies from nondemocracies and that distinguish the different types of democracies and nondemocracies from each other.
Additional substantive areas to be analyzed include the global environment, the social sources of power, the economic sources of power, demand, support and decision-making, system maintenance, force and military intervention and violence and political change.
