FARMINGTON – Alice Cornelio, 102, a resident of Interval Road, Jay, died early Sunday, July 6, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center.
She was born Feb. 21, 1906, in Portland, the daughter of Antonio and Mary (King) Angelo. She attended school in Portland and Cambridge, Mass. On Aug. 27, 1919, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, she married Bernadino Cornelio of Italy. They were married 68 years. He passed away Oct. 11, 1987.
She and her husband made their home in Riley for 44 years, before moving to Jay Village. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, raising a wonderful family of five sons and six daughters. While raising her family, she sewed, gardened and helped on the farm. She was an excellent cook and homemaker.
She cared for her father for 30 years until his death in 1954. In her later years, she learned to crochet afghans and loved eating at restaurants. She treasured the times she spent with her family and had many enjoyable times with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She looked forward to the visits from her many friends and family. She was the oldest resident of Jay and honored with the Boston Post Cane. She was honored by her family with a 100-year birthday party. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Riley. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a very special, loving and caring lady.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Mary Belskis of Farmington, Millie Belskis of Rumford, Rose Labbe of Jay, Peter Cornelio of Jay, Angie Lowe and her husband, Donald, of Farmington, John Cornelio and his wife, Arlene, of Jay, Louise Oakes and her husband, Donald, of Wilton, James Cornelio and his wife, Paula, of Brunswick, Thomas Cornelio and his companion, Linda Stanhope, of Jay and Gloria Tardif and her husband, Richard, of Jay; 48 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; 49 great-great-grandchildren; and 21 stepgrandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Louis Cornelio; three daughter-in-laws, Rhea Cornelio, Mary Cornelio and Patricia Cornelio; two son-in-laws, Emile Labbe and Adam Belskis; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Orchard Park Living Center, and Dr. Armand Auger for the care they provided Alice.
