DURHAM – Dorothy E. Steiner, 83, died Wednesday, July 9, at her home.

She was born in New York City, Jan. 9, 1925, daughter of George and Dorothy Hellberg Moore. She attended and graduated from schools in New York City. She was a resident of Durham for 42 years. She was married to Richard Steiner, who preceded her in death May 1, 1997. She enjoyed needlework, handcrafts and especially bingo.

She loved the Maine woods and seashore. She had a deep love of plants, flowers and all animals, most of all her pets, Foxy and Susie.

She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, quick wit and sense of humor. A spirited and independent woman, she will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Michael J. Steiner and his wife, Sylvia, of Orange Park, Fla., and David R. Steiner and his wife, Linda Lewis, of Windsor, Vt.; her grandchildren, Lori Calhoun and husband, Matthew, of Warner Robins, Ga., and Brandi Howell and husband, Chad, of Macon, Ga.; her great-grandchildren, Dylan and Megan Willis of Macon, Ga., and Taylor Calhoun of Warner Robins, Ga.; her sister, Mildred Jackson of Arkansas; and her brothers, Robert Moore and wife, Carol, of New Jersey, Eugene Moore of Colorado, and William Moore of Idaho.

She was predeceased by brothers Richard, Thomas, Edward and George.
