1929 – 2008

Auburn – James ( Jim ) Campbell, 79, of 70 Pinewoods Rd., Lot # 61, died Friday July 11, at Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

Born in Lewiston on May 4, 1929, a son of the late John and Janet Connell Campbell, he was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in the class of 1949.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict between 1951 and 1953. He was a member of the American Legion Post 158 of Lisbon. Jim worked in computer operations at Bates Fabrics prior to his retirement.

He enjoyed his cat, “Muffin,” the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins, court judges on TV, and game shows.

He played softball for Bates Manufacturing, East Auburn Lakers and coached East Auburn Little League and was president and treasurer of the East Auburn Community Unit.

He loved homemade chocolate cream pie and loved all his family dearly. Jim will be remembered by his wife and caregiver, his daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren and also for his great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Lauretta A. Dubois of Lisbon whom he married September 24, 1955; a daughter, Susan A. Jellison of Lewiston; a granddaughter, Julie Williams and husband, Jason; two great-grandchildren, Arianna and Troy Williams; a brother-in-law, “Baptiste” Joseph Dubois of Auburn.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Campbell, and his son-in-law, David Jellison Sr.
