Having just celebrated the nation’s 232nd Independence Day, I got thinking, not so much about that day, but the day that got it all started – Patriots Day. Independence began with the battle on the Lexington green and the shot that was heard ’round the world at the North Bridge in Concord.

It was a day when ordinary citizens, just like ourselves, finally said enough was enough, and took up arms against the British government.

Why? Because of higher and higher taxes. A government that was, for the most part, out of touch with the colonists in the new world.

Government out of touch? Sounds like the government of today.

A wise man once said that those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. Well, leaders in Washington have forgotten the past and why America was first founded. They talk and talk, hold meetings, but for the most part, nothing gets done.

I have never learned anything by talking, but have learned a lot by listening. Elected officials in Washington never listen anymore, they just talk and talk.

Maybe the nation’s government needs to be reworked, because it’s just not working for the people or by the people.

Maybe it’s time for another revolution, to set things right again.
