South Paris – Ralph L. Millett, 71, of Norway, died early Saturday morning at the Maine Veterans Home.

He was born in Norway, Jan. 31, 1937, a son of Roy and Alice Bach Millett. He attended Norway schools and served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. Upon returning home he worked for Cullinan Wood and then owned the Sunoco gas station on Main Street, in South Paris. In March of 1963, he joined the Army and retired in June of 1981 as a 1st Sergeant. Ralph served in the military police and was committed to his career, he was proud of the respect he earned and received from his men.

During his military career he received an associates degree in law enforcement. In 1981, he joined the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department as a patrol deputy until 1987. For a short time, he ran a wood business from his home in Oxford. Ralph had also served as a civil deputy for the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department. On Sept. 7, 1957, he married Jean Lindsay, they have made their home on Crockett Ridge in Norway since 1999. Ralph enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking, he was always busy.

Survivors include his wife of Norway; three sisters, Virginia Stickney and her husband, Sherm, of Boscawen, N.H., Mildred Witter of Glendale, Ariz., and Lucille Lombard and her husband, Alfred, of South Paris; two brothers, Charlie Millett and his wife, Sandra, of Mechanic Falls and Donald Millett and his wife, Sonja, of San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Ralph was predeceased by his daughter Linda, in 1985; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.
