FARMINGTON – Arno Armas Hill, 79, of Wilton, died Monday, July 14, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Vienna, Jan. 22, 1929, the son of John V. and Maria E. (Laaksola) Hill. He attended the schools of Vienna and Farmington graduating from Farmington High School in 1946.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and then worked for G.H.Bass for 35 years holding many positions there before retiring as a sheetmetal worker in 1988. He married Claire Columbus on Jan. 17, 1953, in Wilton.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farmington, a member of the American Legion Post 117 in Wilton. He was a Little League coach for several years, and he helped with Boy Scout Troop 517, and the Wilton Wanderers Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed snomobiling, fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Claire of 55 years; his daughter, Lorraine Dingley and her husband, Peter, of Farmington; his son, David Hill of Brattleboro, Vt.; two grandchildren, Kathryn Gurney and her husband, Kevin, of Industry and Drew Dingley of Oriental, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Alexander Gurney; and two brothers, Tauno Hill of Washington and Milton Hill of Taftville, Conn.

He was predeceased by two sisters; and three brothers.
