Laura Guptill of Conway, N.H., will again display her metalsmithing skills at the 5th annual Art in the Park at Shorey Park in Bridgton Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guptill began metalsmithing at about age 10 in her father’s garage. She hammered out copper tubing into cuff bracelets, learned how to use the grinding wheel and made bracelets for her family. In her senior year of high school, she began apprenticing at North Country Fair Jewelers with Brian Smith. Guptill says she gets her inspiration from whatever stone she uses. “It seems to tell me what it needs for a design. This is a very exciting process for me as an artist, and I usually am not quite sure where the project is going to go until I am sitting at my bench totally immersed in the creation.”
