MADISON (AP) – A horse had to be euthanized after it ran into a country road and collided with a passing police cruiser in the central Maine town of Madison.

Officer David Savage was driving on Old County Road at about 1 a.m. Wednesday when the horse ran into the passenger-side door. The impact broke the windshield and side window and ripped the light bar off the roof.

Chief Barry Moores said a veterinarian was called to put the horse down. Savage was hit by flying glass, but didn’t suffer any serious injuries.
