LEWISTON – Richard F. Day, 80, of Gray, died peacefully Monday, July 14, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Cornish, June 9, 1928, the son of Albert and Grace (Putnam) Day. He attended Cornish schools, graduating from Cornish High School in 1946. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1947, and was honorably discharged in 1952.

On Dec. 26, 1948, he married Patricia E. Piper, also of Cornish. He and his family moved from Cornish to Lisbon in 1954, where they lived until 1964, when they moved to Gray. In each community where he lived, he was active in town affairs and service organizations as well as the Congregational Church. An accountant most of his life, he was Gray’s code enforcement officer in the years before he retired.

In his retirement years, he and his wife lived year-round at Little Sebago Lake, where he and his family had spent so many happy summers.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Piper) Day; a son, Stephen Day and his wife, Mary Ann, of Gray; four daughters, Tamara (Day) Leavitt and her husband, Daniel, of Gray, Kristen (Day) Powers, Heidi (Day) Hamilton, and her husband, Marvin, all of New Gloucester, and Bethany (Day) Stackhouse and her husband, Thomas, of Lisbon Falls; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Claire (Day) Scott of Limerick; and three brothers, Alan Day of Cape Porpoise, Gerald Day of Gray and Larry Day of Florida.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Beverly (Day) Hale and Charlene (Day) Humphrey; and a brother, Malcolm Day.
