WEST PARIS – A 45-year-old man was arrested on drug charges Saturday after being pulled over for speeding.
John Leeroy Dunroe, of East Holden, was charged with unlawful trafficking in cocaine, criminal speed, violation of conditions of release and falsifying physical evidence.
According to a report by Trooper Paul Casey of the Maine State Police, Dunroe was stopped for going 90 miles per hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone on Route 26.
The report states that a search of the vehicle found two baggies and one druggist’s fold containing cocaine. According to Casey, Dunroe, who had been arrested on the speeding charge and handcuffed, managed to get another baggie out of his pants and grind it into the pavement with his foot.
Casey stated that several knives were also visible in the vehicle, and that Dunroe said a Glock handgun was in the trunk.
Dunroe’s bail was set at $2,500 cash or $25,000 surety after his initial appearance in court on Monday. He had made bail by Wednesday evening.
