LEWISTON – Dogs are smart. They’re often easily trained. But regardless of their intelligence, they probably ought not to drive, with or without a license.

The evidence: A dog in an SUV owned by Diane Beaulieu, 52, of Auburn apparently released the emergency brake in her car, which was parked on Lisbon Street at about 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

The SUV rolled back into a vehicle parked by Kevin St. Onge, 33, of Lewiston.

Damage to the 2005 Ford pickup truck parked by St. Onge and owned by Great Falls Security of Minot was estimated by police at $1,500.

Damage to the 2001 Jeep SUV driven by Beaulieu’s dog and owned by Beaulieu added another $1,000 to the tab.
