WATERFORD – A state trooper was injured early Friday morning when his cruiser struck a tree on Route 118.
Trooper Jason Wing was treated for head injuries and multiple bruises at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Wing’s cruiser was demolished when it struck a large pine tree along a curve in the road. The crash was near the intersection of Route 37, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Wing, along with Oxford County Deputy Joshua Wyman and two other troopers, was responding to Fryeburg to assist the police department with a large fight at a campground.
The police department then updated the officers that the situation was under control.
Wyman was returning to his patrol area when he found the injured trooper walking along Route 118. Wyman drove Wing to Stephen’ Memorial Hospital in Norway. Wing later was transferred to CMMC
A team of troopers investigated the crash during the early morning hours and initial indications are that Wing lost control when the cruiser veered off the road and onto the gravel shoulder. Wing joined the State Police earlier this year, McCausland said.
Wing, of Auburn, served four years with the U.S Marines and is a 2003 graduate of Lewiston High School .
