FARMINGTON – Donald Gordon Whitney, 81, of Avon, passed away on Friday, July 18, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

He was born to Floyd and Ethel (Heath) Whitney on Jan. 11, 1927. He attended school in Avon and later served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a logger and a heavy equipment operator for most of his adult life. He loved hunting, guns and dogs.

Donald is survived by his sister, Delphia Trenoworth, of Buckfield; three children, Dale Whitney and his wife, Geraldine, of Buckfield, Clista Whitney Darveau and her husband, John, of Livermore Falls, and Bonnie Whitney-Marquis and her husband, Marcel, of Colchester, Vt.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
