POLAND – Consecutive suicide squeezes with one out in the seventh inning plated the tying and winning runs to lift Gilman Electric to a Zone III American Legion doubleheader sweep of Gayton. Gilman eased to a 7-3 triumph in the opener.

Gayton led 3-0 before Tyler Merchant’s solo home run in the sixth launched Gilman’s comeback. Jackie MacVane’s RBI double cut the deficit to one and left runners on second and third. Consecutive bunts ended the game. Kyle Mullins scattered five hits in the opener, surrendering doubles to Mekae Hyde, Erik Waite and Jeff Keene. Nick Douglass had three hits for Gilman. Gayton’s Greg LaBonte had three hits in the nightcap.

Bessey, New Auburn split

SOUTH PARIS – New Auburn scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally for a 12-10 victory and a split of an American Legion Zone III baseball doubleheader with Bessey Motors on Saturday. Bessey won the opener 6-3.

Kyle Bussiere led New Auburn with six hits in the doubleheader, including a double, triple and two singles in the nightcap.

Mike Lutz added a double, while Cody Goddard picked up the win in relief. Dan Millett and Brendan Chase hit triples for Bessey.

Dillon Trundy shut down New Auburn in the opener. Travis Fillebron’s sacrifice fly in the sixth snapped a 3-3 tie for Bessey Motors (13-5).
