HARTFORD – On Tuesday the town will elect a selectman in a special election to replace selectman Hope McCabe, who resigned.

The polls will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

McCabe resigned on June 19. Former selectman David Bowen and Zoe Cowett are running for the position.

In other matters, Judy Hamilton from the Anasagunticook Dam Core Committee reported to selectmen that an appraisal for the dam property in Canton has been submitted with a zero value.

The report from Dwyer Associates states that the market value of the dam is compromised by the cost of the repairs to the dam. The 2.46 acres on two lots that include the dam owned by Ray Fortier also have zero value because they are not usable for building.

Chairman Jack Plumbley moved to have the town pay for half of the $4,500 bill. Hartford and Canton share Lake Anasagunticook.

The board granted approval for the Anasagunticook Lake Association to hold their Lake Days on Aug. 9 and open the event to the community. The events will last from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Hartford town beach and will include a raffle, games, swimming, a boat parade, a kayak race and hot dogs will be available.

Armand Rowe was appointed to the SAD 39 board to Lynn Izzi until the next annual town meeting.

The board announced openings for two Planning Board alternates and two Waste Committee members.
