In 1943, he joined the Army Air Force, and was eventually stationed at Rosecrans Field in Missouri, where he made crew chief. While stationed there, Art met and married Deloris. They moved to South Paris in 1948, and built their home on Hill Street.

He will be remembered by friends and family for his “Yankee ingenuity,” his bountiful gardens, his grade A maple syrup, and for the management of his woodlot, described by the state of Maine Forestry Department “as one of the best managed hardwood stands in the state.”
