LEWISTON – Michael J. DeSalle, 83, of 119 York St. in Rumford, died Monday, July 21, at Central Maine Medical Center with family at his side.

He was born in Rumford, April 25, 1925, a son of Nicola and Maria (Giambattista) DeSalle. He was educated in Rumford schools and remained a lifelong Rumford resident.

On Dec. 29, 1947, he married Gloria Lantiegne and together they settled to raise their family. Mike worked many years in the paper mill, first for Oxford Paper Co. and later for Boise Cascade Paper Co. until his retirement as a department supervisor.

He was a member of St. Athanasius-St. John’s Church and was a former longtime member of the Sons of Italy. As a member of the Bethel Inn Country Club, he was an extremely avid and longtime golfer and he also enjoyed working with wood and general carpentry. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Gloria DeSalle of Rumford; a daughter, Barbara DeSalle of Rumford; a son, Michael S. DeSalle, of Rumford; a daughter, Gina Gallant and husband, Eric, of Sumpter, S.C.; a son, Kevin DeSalle of Rumford; two grandchildren, Jamie DeSalle and Jenny Gallant, both of Sumpter, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Don DeSalle of Lewiston; a sister, Nancy Veneziano; and two brothers, Frank and Guido DeSalle.
