Chicken barbecue

OQUOSSOC – St. Luke’s annual chicken barbecue will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association on Skiway Road. All are welcome.

Menu will include chicken, hot dogs, salads, desserts and hot and cold drinks. Prices are $10 for the big meal plate; $8, adult chicken plate; $6, adult hot dog plate; $4, child’s chicken plate; $3, child’s hot dog plate.

Grader training

WILTON – Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District will host front runner/grader gravel road maintenance training from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 28.

Participants should meet for the initial part of the training at Academy Hill School, corner of Route 156 and East Wilton Road, at 8 a.m. The outside part of the workshop will be held at Hanslip Road.

The workshop will be held rain or shine. The cost is $35 a person. Payment must be made at the time of registration. Checks should be sent to FCSWCD, 107 Park St., Farmington, ME 04938.

Book sale set

WILTON – There will be a book sale on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2, at the Nichols Expo Building during the Wilton Blueberry Festival. Sale hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Plan for fair

NEW VINEYARD – The New Vineyard Historical Society will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, in the historical room to continue planning for Farmington Fair.

Loans of items of historical importance will be tagged and placed in the museum on the fairgrounds. The society wishes to have a good representation of New Vineyard history. Contact telephone numbers are 652-2254 and 652-2252.

Museum auction

RANGELEY – The Wilhelm Reich Museum will hold an auction at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Conference Center on Dodge Pond Road.

Items will include a white futon, multicolored handmade afghan, a singing fish plaque, digital cameras, garment bags, metal deer candle holders, gift certificates for local lodging and restaurants. If anyone has any auctionable items they would like to donate it would be appreciated.

Baby derby

WILTON – The Wilton Blueberry Festival will feature a Baby and Toddler Derby on Saturday, Aug. 2. There will be heats in two divisions: crawlers, newborn to 12 months, and walkers, 12 to 24 months, and winners in each division will receive: first, $50 savings bond; second, $10 Chamber Bucks.

Registration forms are available in Blueberry Festival fliers, at Blessed Baby Boutique or online. Registrations will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the flagpole area at Kineowatha Park. For more information, call Heidi at 645-2545.

Bean supper

STRONG – The Porter Lake Association will hold its 39th annual bean-hole bean supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Strong Beach on Porter Lake (Forster Building in case of rain).

Ticket prices are $6 for adults; $3 for children 5 to 11, free, under 5. Bring a salad or dessert to share. The menu includes bean-hole baked beans, franks, rolls and beverages and a variety of donated salads and desserts.

The dinner supports activities beneficial to the lake, its users and the lake environment.
