PORTLAND – Alfred K. Bourgault, 86, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Auburn, died unexpectedly enroute to Maine Medical Center on Wednesday, July 23.

He was born in Winchendon, Mass., on Jan. 28, 1922, the son of Raymond and Anne Sentabar Bourgault. He graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco. Shortly after graduating, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served proudly during World War II, and fought for our country in the Guadalcanal Campaign. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1960, with the rank of master sergeant.

At this time, he moved his family to Auburn and operated the Turner Street Market for a number of years prior to retiring in 1978 to Port Charlotte, Fla.

He married the former Mary Jo Faunce on Nov. 23, 1946, who passed away in November 1990.

While in Florida, he was actively involved in the Wintergarden Presbyterian Church, American Legion and local Moose Lodge. He was also actively involved in the Gulf Coast Singles Club and served as president and vice-president. He was a member of the Port Charlotte Tennis Club and regularly volunteered at the Military Heritage Museum in Punta Gorda, Fla.

He is survived by three sons, John Bourgault and his wife, Kathaleen, of Turner, Keith and his wife, Kathleen, of Auburn and Richard and his wife, Darcy, of Gorham; his longtime companion and friend, Marilou Smith of Port Charlotte, Fla.; his sisters, Lorraine Lane of Saco and Ruth Bonney of Sabattus; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. “Beepa” loved playing with his grandchildren and enjoyed many special times with them.

He was predeceased by his only daughter, Sandra Saphner in October 1996; his parents; and a brother, Richmond Bourgault.
