LEWISTON – Pauline R. Nelson, 84, of 97 Gayton Road, Lewiston, passed away at her home Wednesday, July 23, with her family by her side.
She was born in Visalia, Calif., June 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Harold and Addie Crocker White. She attended Lewiston schools. She attended Cavalry Methodist Church in Lewiston, and was a member of the Auxiliary VFW Post 1459 of Lisbon.
She worked at Olfene’s and Cottle’s Super Market and retired from the lunch program at Lewiston High School in 1986.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking, basket weaving, singing Down by the Meadow to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taking trips to the coast.
She loved family gatherings especially around the holidays and for the yearly summer family reunion.
She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her love of family, her own measuring system when cooking and her constant love and support.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph E. Nelson Jr. of Lewiston, whom she married May 17, 1947; two daughters, Shirley A. Grady of Auburn and Donna L. Goulet and husband, Donald, of Lewiston; five sons, Thomas A. Emerson of Maryland, Donald A. Nelson and his wife, Mary, of Farmington, Kenneth E. Nelson of Lewiston, Richard P. Nelson and his wife, Linda, of Lewiston and Randall A. Nelson and his wife, Kelly, of Lewiston; daughter-in-law, Suzelle Emerson of Lewiston; 18 grandchildren, Willy, Brian, Wendy, Karen, Keith, Kristen, Tracie, Cindy, Eric, David, Lisa, Nash, Erik, Chandal, Stephanie, Tyler, John Jr. and Jaime; 18 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way; three sisters, Annie Charpentier and her husband, Roland, of Lisbon, Ilda Whitham of Lewiston and Harriet Stilkey of Lewiston; two brothers, Harry White and his wife, Beryl, of New Gloucester and Donald White and his wife, Freda, of Bowdoinham.
She was predeceased by a son, John F. Emerson; six sisters; and a brother.
