SOUTH PARIS – Ryan Yates fired a four-hit shutout to lead Bessey Motors to a 10-0 triumph over fourth-ranked Cole Farms in the semifinals of the American Legion Zone III baseball tournament Saturday.
Bessey Motors took charge early by scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. A couple of errors contributed to the three-run outburst in the first, while a double steal, error and an RBI single by Evan Humphrey fueled Bessey’s three-run second.
Dan Millett added a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Catcher Matt Verrier finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles, while Brandon Chase and Dillon Trundy also hit doubles.
Yates finished with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Nick Derice, Taylor Valente and Arty Winship shared pitching duties for Cole Farms (13-9).
No. 1 Bessey Motors (16-5-1), which has already clinched a spot in the state tournament by winning the regular-season championship, will host Gayton Post of Lewiston for the Zone III championship Sunday at 1 p.m.
