WATERVILLE – Simonne L. Baril, 87, of Bingham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, at Lakewood Manor.
She was born in Auburn, April 25, 1921, one of seven children to Alcide and Laura (Beauchesne) Marquis. She attended schools in the Auburn area, was employed at the Lown Shoe Co. in Auburn and eventually married her lifelong companion, Leon Baril.
In 1971, she and Leon left Auburn to operate the East Carry Pond Sporting Camps for their daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Lou Poulin, retiring in Bingham after several years of devoted service to the guests. While there, she formed many lasting friendships and will be remembered for her apple pies and peanut butter cookies as well as her dedication, perseverance, hard work and kindness to others.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Poulin-Guzman and her husband, Juan Guzman; two grandchildren, Celeste Poulin of Randolph and Philip Poulin of Brandon, Miss.; two great-grandchildren, Allie Enquist and Matthew Poulin, also of Brandon; a sister, Theresa Gross of Auburn; two sisters-in-law, Olivette Marquis of Florida, and Rita Marquis of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leon, on June 16; her parents; five siblings, Ida Girardin, Blanche Ledoux and Raymond, Victor and Gerard Marquis; and a son-in-law, Lucien Poulin.
