LEWISTON – Winifred “Wini” C. Evans, 79, of Auburn, died on July 26, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was the daughter of Doris and Harry Russell, born on July 27, 1928. Wini was always known for cracking jokes and smiling, even through pain and illness. She enjoyed hiking, studying maps, bird watching, plants, flowers, helicopter rides and her kitty.

She had retired from Capsawn as the computer embroidery machine operator. Prior she had worked at various places, including a history with Bates Mill and Libbey Mill – as well as being a very accomplished seamstress her entire life.

Survived by siblings, Celia Wyman, Vivian Mancine, Lawrence Russell and Wesley Russell; daughters, Shannon Atkinson, Anita Chandler, Melody Thurlow, Colleen O’Connor and Darcy Evans; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Evans; and son, Bernard “Buddy” O’Connor.
