The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has set the date for a public meeting to allow people to comment on water quality issues.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Lewiston City Hall.
The DEP agreed to hold the meeting after the Androscoggin River Alliance objected to a June 18 meeting. It said the public wasn’t adequately notified that water quality issues – including the quality of the Androscoggin River – would be up for discussion during that meeting. People now have the opportunity to discuss those issues on Aug. 14.
That input will be presented to the Board of Environmental Protection when it holds a formal public hearing in September. Any recommendations from the board will be submitted to the Legislature by the end of the year.
