This is in response to the letter from Clifton Foster, printed Aug. 5.
Yes, let us repeat the days of President Jimmy Carter. Let us play back what Carter said about being a slave to oil. He tried to alert the public to the problem of what is happening today.
The American people look at things short-term. That is the reason people are in this situation today. Voters elect people into office who give the public the candy they need. That is the reason President Reagan was elected. Forget about the next generation.
The next generation that President Carter talked about is happening now. Alternative energy is not new, and now that oil is no longer cheap, this country finally is waking up.
T. Boone Pickens has had the solution for years, and finally the media are waking up.
