MONMOUTH – Overcast skies along with uncooperative bass made it tough fishing for the L/A Junior Bassmasters’ recent tournament on Wilson Pond. A few bass made it to the scales, however, and then were released back to the pond. Those bass were caught on senkos, jigs and crankbaits.
In the Pro Division, Shawn Breton caught the lunker largemouth; 5.16 lbs, and took first place with two bass weighing a combined 7.72 pounds. Remaining Pro Division weights: Nick Deering 6.90, Brian Volkernick 3.71, Jack Peters 2.91, Curtis Robinson 1.38.
Kaitlyn Deering netted a 2.91-pound bass for the Semi-Pro Division’s lunker largemouth. Second place went to Brenden Wood with 2.75, which included a 1.76 bass for the lunker smallmouth.
Nick Deering will represent Maine and L/A Junior Bassmasters at the Junior Bassmasters World Championship at Lake Onondoga in Syracuse, N.Y., on August 10. Brian Volkernick will compete Sept. 20 in the Eastern Divisional on Lake Winnipesaukee, Laconia, N.H. Both weigh-ins may be watched live online at bassmaster.com.
