AUBURN – A series of explosions that rattled the Lake Street area Tuesday night was alarming but not deadly, police said Wednesday.
Police who investigated the late-night clamor determined that the rapid-fire disruption to the evening was due to fireworks, not gunplay.
About 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, roughly a dozen people who live on Lake Street, Gamage Avenue, Park Avenue and Nottingham Drive reported hearing what they thought were gunshots.
Though most of the calls to the emergency dispatch center came from the area of Lake Street and Park Avenue, people as far away as Granite Street also reported hearing the explosions.
Several police officers scoured the area, searching for obvious signs that a gun had been fired. None were found.
What police did find were signs that fireworks had been detonated, according to deputy police Chief Jason Moen.
They also determined where the incendiary devices had come from and they were continuing to investigate that aspect Wednesday.
