Voting place changed
The issue: Residents of Ward I, Lisbon and Lisbon Center have been voting at the town office meeting room, however parking has posed a problem. Town officials had been considering consolidating the polls for both Wards I and Ward II, Lisbon Falls, or relocating them.
The scoop: It was voted to relocate Ward I to the former Lisbon Elementary School and keep Ward II in its current location at the MTM Community Center in Lisbon Falls.
Ordinances
The scoop: Following a public hearing, councilors tabled final passage of a new windmill ordinance after it was decided more information was needed. Public hearings and first readings of three other ordinances dealing with signs, Board of Appeals and Zoning Board of Appeals were held.
Permits
The scoop: Six-month renewals of itinerant vendor permits were granted to Bob Cummins, d/b/a Tap Enterprises Inc. and Dick Treadwell, d/b/a Northeast Inc. The Slovak Catholic Association’s Off Premise Catering permit was renewed.
Appointments
The scoop: Carol Curtis and Diana Eck were appointed to three-year terms on the Recreation Committee, Board of Appeals Chairman Charles Lausier was reappointed to that panel for three years, and Kenneth Wills was appointed to the MTM Board of Directors for three years. Town Manager Steve Eldridge reported that librarian Diane Nadeau has been appointed to the New England Executive Board of the New England Library Association representing Maine.
Announcements
The scoop: New Manadarin software is now on the library web site for patrons to view.
The scoop: A sewer department budget workshop will be held Aug. 19.
The scoop: Eldridge will be working with General Assistance Director Judy Hardy-Goddard on a heating fund and forum to present ways to save on heating costs.
