LEWISTON – Rainy weather is delaying work installing new playground equipment at Kennedy Park.

Public Works Director Paul Boudreau said playground equipment bound for the park arrived last week and crews are hoping to get it installed before the end of September. The equipment includes a sky rail climber, a spring platform, a 40-inch-tall slide and three bays of swings and climbing blocks.

“The problem is that we’ve been pushed behind schedule on other projects because of all the rain,” Boudreau said. “We have other projects that we are right in the middle of that keep getting delayed, and that’s our concern now. We’re just not ready to do the installation yet.”

The city closed the playground and removed the equipment in April, after deeming it unsafe. Councilors in May approved spending $26,000 to replace the equipment.
