BRUNSWICK – Ron Raines, best known to daytime audiences as “Guiding Light’s” Alan Spaulding, will regale Maine State Music Theatre audiences Monday, Aug. 11, with his repertoire of Broadway favorites.

The one-night only show, “Ron Raines and Friends,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus.

Daytime audiences will recognize Raines as Alan Spaulding from the CBS daytime drama “Guiding Light” since 1994, a role that has earned him three Emmy Award and three Soap Opera Digest Award nominations.

Besides his television work, Raines is one of America’s most prominent musical theater performers. He starred on Broadway as lawyer Billy Flynn in “Chicago,” as Gaylord Ravenal in the 1983 revival of “Showboat” and as Teddy Roosevelt’s son-in-law, Nick Longworth, in “Teddy and Alice.”

Raines has also starred in regional theater and opera house productions of such shows as “South Pacific,” “Annie,” “The King and I,” “Oklahoma!,” “Carousel,” “Follies” and “Man of La Mancha.”

Raines has also brought his talent and love for music to audiences around the country and the world through concert performances. He has performed with such orchestras as the Philadelphia Pops, Washington D.C.,’s National Symphony, the Boston Pops, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony and the Israeli Philharmonic. In addition, he has performed for first ladies Ladybird Johnson and Nancy Reagan.

Raines has a long personal history with Maine State Music Theatre. He first performed on the Pickard Theater stage in 1974 when he was a 24-year old Oklahoma City University student, appearing in productions of “No No Nannette,” “Oliver,” “Where’s Charlie” and “Anything Goes.” His wife, Dona, has performed and directed at the theater and his daughter Charlotte is currently a member of the MSMT intern company.

MSMT fan favorites Amy Bodnar and John-Charles Kelly will accompany Raines on the Pickard Theater stage. Bodnar stars in three MSMT shows this season, most notably as Ulla in “The Producers” and as Fantine in “Les Misérables.” Longtime MSMT performer John-Charles Kelly graces the stage of all four main stage shows this summer.
