AUBURN – Four men were indicted Friday in connection with a July home invasion in New Auburn where shots were fired in what police described as a drug-related robbery.
The late afternoon raid occurred July 10 at 25 South Main St., police said. Several witnesses heard gunshots and police quickly closed down a section around Third and Broad streets as they surrounded a cluster of buildings.
A 17-year-old Auburn teen was arrested at the scene, as was an 18-year-old from Lewiston. Over then next few days, police arrested two more in connection with the invasion and began to search for a fifth.
The man who lived in the apartment where the robbery occurred, 39-year-old Lawrence Coy was charged with marijuana cultivation.
On Friday, the following people were indicted on charges of burglary and reckless conduct, accused of bursting into Coy’s home with an assault rifle:
• Yusuf Mohamoud, 18, of Clarkston, Ga.;
• Nicholas Taylor, 22, of 400 Maple Hill, Auburn;
• Anwar A. Ahmed, 18, of 87 Howe St., Lewiston; and
• Tyler Scott Bryant, 20, of 75 Houghton St., Auburn.
A day after the incident, Auburn police were joined by drug agents and officers from the Maine Warden Service as they searched a first-floor apartment at the South Main Street building.
There, police said, officers recovered 65 pot plants, a half-pound of processed marijuana and associated paraphernalia.
Police said they also found eight weapons with ammunition, including a 9 mm handgun and an AK-47 assault rifle.
The man who lives in a South Main Street apartment, 20-year-old David Rivard, was charged with aggravated cultivation of marijuana, possession of scheduled drugs and illegal importation of wildlife.
Police said the latter charge stemmed from a water monitor – a lizard estimated at 3 feet long – found inside Rivard’s home.
