PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Military paratroopers from the U.S. and 10 other nations will be parachuting from helicopters in Rhode Island’s annual Leapfest.
The competition, sponsored by the Rhode Island National Guard, starts Saturday morning. In case of rain, it will be held Sunday.
Military officials say four-person teams will take turns leaping from helicopters over a drop zone in South Kingstown. Each team gets three jumps.
The parachutists are timed on how long it takes them from when they hit the ground to when they arrive at a designated target. The quickest team wins the competition.
This is the 26th annual match.
