KEENE, N.H. (AP) – A former truck driver is using pedal power to make a living in Keene.

Richard Rice, 40, is using rickshaws – three-wheeled bicycles with a seat in the back for passengers – to provide a taxi service in the city’s downtown.

Rice just cleared a hurdle with the city to provide the service. Rice had to buy insurance. He also put slow-moving vehicle placards on the back, lights, bright safety vests for drivers and helmets for passengers under 16 years old.

Keene State College students are his biggest customers.

He says the best part is being able to ride past gas stations.
