PERU – The sun might rise in the east, but the Christmas spirit abounds in the west at Worthley Pond. Judges Dave and Patty Duguay of the Greater Rumford Area and Charlie and Cathie Geiger of Palmetto, Fla., pronounced the west side of the pond the winner in every division of the Christmas in July event held recently.
Pond residents Jim and Mary Pulsifer captained the judges’ boat along with organizer Kathy Barrett, who escorted the four judges around the pond Saturday evening.
In the camp division, out of more than 100 competitors, Peter and Pat Brawn of Cape Elizabeth and Worthley Pond were pronounced the number one winners, earning a restaurant gift card. Steve Gallant captured the second place award and Phil and Kathy Buskey came in third. All are located on the west side of the pond.
In the boat division, Mike and Beth Burke took first and Steve Gallant came in second. Honorable mentions were given to Leo and Jill Hamman and Phil, Gloria and Todd Larrivere/Dick Sarle. Boat and camp winners are located from the Snowshoe Club to Murray’s Cove area on the west shore.
The association store, located at Honey Run Campground, is open from 10 a.m. to noon each Saturday during August.
