Potluck supper
WEST PARIS – There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the West Paris Universalist Church. Friends are invited to bring a salad, casserole or dessert. Jim Burke, church organist, will provide organ/piano music and a sing-a-long, following. It is free and all are welcome.
Pancake breakfast
PARIS – A blueberry pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Deering Memorial Methodist Church, corner of Church and Main streets, Paris. The all-you-can-eat meal will include sausage and bacon at $6.50 for adults, $3 under 12.
There will also be a bake sale of all things blueberry from 7 to 11 a.m. There is ample parking behind the library and town office.
Summer social
PARIS – The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine annual summer social will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Paris Fire Station, Western Avenue. Those wishing to attend the noontime luncheon are to provide a potluck dish. There will be a bottomless coffee pot and the gift shop will be open.
Women to meet
PARIS – Christian Women United will meet Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the First Congregational Church, Paris. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be Juanita Graves, who will also present music. Those who have not been contacted, but would like a reservation, may call Pearl Anderson at 743-5724.
Sunday picnic
OTISFIELD – The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church will hold its annual Sunday school picnic (also known as Joe Holden Day) on Sunday, Aug. 17, after an 11 a.m. church service.
Peanuts, popcorn and strawberry ice cream will be served, using funds left to the church by Joe Holden and William Spurr.
Those who plan to attend should bring a picnic lunch. The church is located on the Rayville Road.
Traditionally the picnic is held the last Sunday in August, but as this year that would conflict with Labor Day, it was decided to hold the picnic a bit earlier.
Supper, raffle
SUMNER – A supper and raffle will take place at the West Sumner Universalist Church at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. There will be homemade baked beans, casseroles, salads and pies. Cost is adults, $7; children under 5, $5.
Bridge play
NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 8 at the Fare Share Building, Main Street, when a 5 and 1/2 half Howell movement was played.
Finishing tied for first and second in Flight A were Nancy and Larry Farmer with Bailey Geeslin and Les Buzzell; third, Georgette Jewell and Pat Quinn.
Finishing first in Flight B were Marilyn and Richard Canton; second, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr; third, Barbara Beegel and Jim Dickens.

Church supper
PARIS – A baked bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, Paris. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 10. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
