WINTHROP – With the strength of his arm and quickness of his bat, winning pitcher Torey Carr helped maneuver the Winthrop Red Sox past Goody’s Guys of Pittsfield, 9-3, in men’s senior baseball action. The loss eliminated Goody’s from the MSBL playoffs.
After allowing three hits and a run in the first inning, Carr cruised through the next five frames. Carr allowed only two more hits before giving way to Jim Morris.
Goody’s kept the game close by slinging the leather in the infield until the bottom of the fifth, when Carr came through with a bases-loaded triple to right field for a 7-1 lead.
The Sox added two more runs in the sixth. Brett Witherell collected three singles for Winthrop, with Dave Ricker Jr. adding a double and a single.
Goody’s repeat hitters were Gary Morin with three singles and Charlie Bassett and Ryan White with two knocks apiece.
