There have been a couple letters (Aug. 1 and 2) to the editor recently concerning state Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello’s end-of-sesson wrapup mailing. Such wrapups are sent out by many legislators to update constituents on what happened during the past legislative session.
I think Sen. Snowe-Mello’s wrapup is a breath of fresh air. Instead of a political handout touting only the good of Augusta, she runs through all the important issues the Legislature faced.
If the two who wrote had bothered to read the opening letter from her end-of-session review, they would have known that she offered an explanation for what was passed, not a campaign statement about what she supported and what she did not. I quote, “This Legislative Summary contains just a small portion of the bills we dealt with this session. Some I voted for and some I did not. I tried to focus on the ones that affect our area or the ones that received the most calls and letters.”
Perhaps the two who wrote are confused. They could be used to reading wrapups from Democrats that are sugar-coated and self-promoting.
I hope people will read the update more carefully before they write to rant against a hard-working, even-handed legislator such as Sen. Snowe-Mello.
