NEW YORK (AP) – The FBI says artworks from a massive collection found in the New York home of a dead dealer were stolen in the 1960s and ’70s.
It says at least 20 works of art in William Kingsland’s collection were stolen, but it’s not sure if he had anything to do with it.
Investigators were notified after two auction houses began to sell off the collection. They say a stolen bust by Alberto Giacometti is valued at about $1 million.
The FBI has posted many of the works online so people can possibly claim them.
After Kingsland died in 2006, two movers hired to transport the collection to a warehouse made off with two Pablo Picasso paintings. The movers were caught, and the paintings were returned.
