EPSOM, N.H. (AP) – A kayaker caught in the rapids of the Suncook River in Epsom, N.H., has been rescued by emergency crews.

Officials say 43-year-old Dennis Jenkerson, of Epsom, stayed afloat for 45 minutes Sunday with his arms wrapped around a fallen tree.

Epsom Police Officer Brian Fleming says the kayak “got stuck” on one of the trees that fell into the river during flooding over the last few years.

He says Jenkerson’s leg got trapped in the sinking kayak. The water was over Jenkerson’s shoulders and up to the back of his neck.

Fleming says after Jenkerson was pulled into a rescue boat, that boat became stuck too. It took 30 to 45 minutes for everyone to make it to shore.

Officials say Jenkerson was taken to Concord Hospital with possible leg injuries.
