SCARBOROUGH – Marshall E. Wing, 88, of Westbrook, passed peacefully on Monday, Aug. 11, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 16, 1919, the second son of Sanford and Connie Libby Wing of Leeds Junction. He was married to his loving wife of 59 years, Florence Billings. He and Florence lived in Auburn, Lewiston and Westbrook. He graduated from Monmouth Academy and expected to enter the University of Maine in Orono.

He was the first in the town of Wales to be drafted in the Army and later was in the Army Air Force a total of four and a half years. He served two years with a bomber squadron in India, Burma and China.

He was a longtime member of the Westbrook United Methodist Church and a member of the Monmouth, Warren Phillips and Saccarappa Masonic Lodges since 1946. He was also a member of the Westbrook Republican City Committee.

He was employed by W.H Gammon Co., Lewiston, then R.I. Mitchell, Auburn, H.P. Hood and Deering Ice Cream of Portland. He retired in 1986. He also continued to work part-time for the American Journal Newspaper. He was a master mechanic and could fix anything. He loved sports; he played baseball even after high school in organized leagues. He loved playing sports with family and relatives. He also loved swimming, even in the cold ocean water and he loved family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence; his two children, Marshalyn Baker and her husband, Richard, of Belgrade and Marland Wing and his wife, Schonen, of Westbrook; six grandchildren, Meghan, Marlanda and Melissa Wing, all of Portland, Ryan Baker and his wife, Samantha, of Hampden, Randen Baker of Brewer and Matthew Wing of Westbrook; and five great-grandchildren, Naomi, Isabella, Kobe, Natalie and Nathan.

The family wishes to thank his physician of 22 years, Dr. Delvyn Case, and the Maine Medical Center, the Barron Center and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their loving care.
