LEWISTON – An early morning fog cleared just after 7 a.m. Friday, opening up the sky for a crew of waiting balloonists to kick off the 16th Annual Great Falls Balloon Fest.

Organizers say 32 balloonists are taking part in this year’s festival, which continues throughout the weekend in Lewiston and Auburn.

Events continue Friday with music food and games at Lewiston’s Simard/Payne Park and Auburn’s Festival Plaza.

The second balloon launch of the day is scheduled for 6 p.m., with moon glow and fireworks scheduled for dusk – about 7:45 p.m.

Events and balloon launches continue Saturday and Sunday.
