GORHAM, N.H. – Pianists Michie Akin and David Westfall will perform a program of works by Franz Schubert on an 1863 Erard piano, recently delivered to Chapel Arts New England, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17.
The inaugural concert on the historic piano by the most well-known builder of the 19th century will include two large sonatas and the “Fantasie in F Minor” for piano four hands.
Purchased in 1992 by Akin, the piano was given a restoration and moved to Chapel Arts New England this summer “in hopes that it will be played more often and benefit the local community.”
Last summer on an extended visit to the area, Akin “fell in love with the natural beauty of the area, which,” he said, “is connected to the art of making music. The music of Schubert is a logical choice.”
Akin will collaborate with David Westfall, co-chairman of the Keyboard Department and chairman of Collaborative Piano at the Hartt School, University of Hartford.
Chapel Arts New England is located at the intersection of Routes 16 south and 2 across from the Town Common. For more information, contact www.chapelartsnewengland.com or www.susanferre.net.
