TOPSHAM – Wright-Pierce, a New England provider of water, wastewater and infrastructure engineering services, has announced the 12 recipients of its student scholarship program.

This year’s recipients, students of engineers and support staff at five of the firm’s seven New England offices, are Tyler Barnes, McKell Barnes, Andrew Laskey, Jamie Mauro, Kimberly Preble, Benjamin Stiles, Laura Anne Till, Hans Tobiason, Katelyn Taber, Brooke Davee, Erik Anderson and Nathan Braccio.

The scholarship program was initiated more than 45 years ago to honor the sons and daughters of Wright-Pierce employees for academic achievement. Since 1962, the scholarships have been awarded to more than 125 students. Wright-Pierce views the scholarship program as a way to acknowledge the importance of higher education by rewarding students who have completed at least their first year of college.

Recipients Tyler and McKell Barnes are the children of Lori and Rob Barnes of Durham. Rob is an environmental technical specialist at Wright-Pierce. Tyler recently completed his junior year at University of Maine in Orono where he is a biology/pre-med major. This summer Tyler is working at the Sea Dogs restaurant and job shadowing with a local chiropractor. McKell will be a sophomore in the fall at University of Maine at Farmington where she is pursuing a secondary education degree with an emphasis in mathematics.

Andrew Laskey is a business major at Southern New Hampshire University where he has a 3.5 grade point average. Laskey is employed at Maine Instrument Flight in Augusta where he is a licensed commercial pilot and flight instructor. He is the son of David and Laurie Laskey of Topsham. Dave is an electrical engineer at Wright-Pierce.

Jamie Mauro begins her senior year in the fall at the University of Maine at Farmington, where she is a special education major and member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service organization. She is the daughter of Sandy and Brian Mauro of Topsham. Sandy is a project technician at Wright-Pierce. Jamie is working this summer for College Pro Painters as a job site manager and as a counselor at Girl Scouts of America summer camp.

Kimberly Preble begins her junior year at the University of Maine in Orono in the fall. She is a French major, with Spanish, business administration and political science as minors. Preble plays intramural Frisbee and flag football. She is working this summer as a camp counselor for the Auburn Recreation Department and as a retail sales associate. She is the daughter of Wright-Pierce Civil Engineer/Project Manager Jeff and Joanne Preble of Auburn.

Benjamin Stiles completed his freshmen year at the University of Maine in Orono with a 4.0 grade point average. He is pursuing a civil engineering degree. Stiles is active in intramural sports including soccer, basketball and volleyball. He is employed at Hannaford Brothers this summer as a cashier and as a hot dog stand vendor for J.A.Y enterprises in Freeport. Ben is the son of David and Patricia Stiles of Durham.

Katelyn Taber just completed her freshman year at the University of Maine at Farmington where she is a psychology major. This summer Taber is working two retail jobs. She is the daughter of Pete and Michelle Atherton of Scarborough. Pete is a vice president and wastewater practice group leader at the Wright-Pierce Portland office. They reside in Scarborough.

Laura Anne Till is in the nursing program at University of Maine at Fort Kent where she just completed her first year. She is working at Houlton Farms Dairy in Caribou this summer. Laura is the daughter of Andy Till, a resident project representative in the field for Wright-Pierce. They reside in Caribou.
