The Andy Valley East 11-and-under baseball team captured its second consecutive state championship this summer. Andy Valley East was comprised of all-stars from Mechanic Falls, Minot, Poland and Otisfield.
The East team started its quest for a second state title with a warmup tournament, the Larry Carter Invitational, where it played six games and won the tournament.
Cal Ripken 11U state tournament play commenced July 19 in Skowhegan. Thirteen teams from around the state competed. The state title game was played at Mini Fenway Park in Oakland.
Skowhegan made its way out of the losers bracket to earn the right to face Andy Valley. The champions fell behind 3-0 in the second inning before rallying with one run in the second inning, another in the third and three in the fourth.
East went 5-0 in the tourney. From there, the boys advanced to the regional Cal Ripken tournament August 2-7 in New Canaan, Conn.
Andy Valley finished fifth in New England.
